Alexandria— The Anna Lindh Euro-Med Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures and the Sustainable Development Association will jointly organize a Big Jump Day in Alexandria at the Beau Rivage Beach in Miami on 15 July 2007.
The Big Jump Day is part of the Water: our Common Future Campaign -- a high visibility campaign on the essential theme of water, our rivers and our seas. It will inspire inter-cultural dialogue on large scale level, tackle issues of social relevance such as peace, sustainable development and social justice, and create sustainable actions across the Euro-Mediterranean Region, having a positive impact on the wider world.
This year the Euro-Med Big Jump Day will take place in the following six locations: Alexandria (Egypt), Tanger (Morocco) Jordan River, Barcelona (Spain), Allier-Loire River (France) and Regione Emilia Romagna (Italy). In 2008 (International Year of Inter-Cultural Dialogue), The Big Jump Day will be held in the 37 Euro-Mediterranean countries.
The programme of the Day includes a number of activities such as beach games, beach cleaning and an open space for civil society. Member organizations in the Anna Lindh Foundation National Network in Egypt working in the fields of youth, sustainable development and environment will participate for the first time in a public event where they will have the chance to present their work and publicize for their activities.
At 4 p.m. the public will make a Big Jump into the water for the first time in the history of Alexandrian beaches. The number of people estimated to make a jump in the water and take part in the whole day's activities is 3000.
Special thanks goes to H.E. General Adel Labib, Governor of Alexandria and the Governorate of Alexandria for their kind support and warm welcome in one of the beaches of Alexandria.
