My first liberty call in Toulon France. I arrived and left by Aircraft Carrier, The USS Enterprise. While on a liberty, I got invited to a big gay party at a villa overlooking the harbor, fortress and city of Toulon. Definitely a night to remember and a great war story 25 years later. Gay Italian Serbian and French Army guys dancing and partying all night on the French Rivera.

  • I hate the word "romantic"; encumbered as it is with images of cheap paperback softcore for lonely housewives, insufferable Hallmark branded tv movies, and all the attendant embarrassing corny triteness it connotes. And yet, what other word is there to describe the amazing experience you tell of here. The adventure you had simply can never be known to straight men, and they know not how deeply impoverished they are for it. Makes me proud and happy to be a gay dude. Wonderful story, thank you.

  • @10mintwo Wow! Great review. I must admin... I was raised in a tiny village of conformity, dullness and uninspired people growing up. when I was 17, I sprinted (via the military) into the world seeking an escape from the maddening boredom that spawned me. If my life has turned out to be a pearl necklace of cheap, insufferable Hallmark trashy novel plots for board housewives, then I've lived a life more enchanted and adventure laden than most could have ever hoped for... AND IT'S NOT OVER YET.

  • What happened to the guys you went with? Did they have any curtains in the breeze moments! Lol

  • @fuzb I'm quite sure that there were 20 or 30 "Curtains blowing in the breeze" experiences in that villa that night. I just happened to be in the Master bedroom. O.M.G. I just remembered the sunrise over the Mediterranean through the 3 veranda double doors that morning. I think I took a picture of my aircraft carrier from the villa. wow! I tried to be subtle about that with the reference to the 60 uniforms laying all over the place and getting walked on. Yes it was that kind of party.

  • Sorry about the stuttering. I was on campus and class was in 1 hour so I was in a rush. More installments of the chronicalls of a gay sailor coming soon.

  • Wow what an experience!

  • O.o..i am so envious of u right now. :P

  • Lolwut, no cursing in your comments?!! Ok, now I can't believe you were in the military anymore ;)

  • @10mintwo I read the first time that you meant the opposite, I was agreeing with you. But don't drop F-bombs in my reviews please. I must reiterate again that my life is, by design, associated with all the undesirable aspects of the word romantic. Anything less, would be a waste of my years. I've always been adamantly opposed to the typical.

  • oh, I didn't mean to suggest your experience was associated with those undesirable aspects of the word romantic. Rather, I meant the opposite, that the word is unfortunately imperfect and insufficient to describe your experience, which must have been wonderful.

Anyway, I look forward to future stories of your military experiences as a gay man; also the great pictures from back then! The brotherhood, the sexual tension of all masculine environments like that...fuckin' love that stuff, man :)
