What is poignant and beautiful is that our brethrens in Africa were taken as Slaves to America and Indies, their children separated from them and anglo sized - if not all these muslim slaves were highly educated and of noble blood. Today their descendants ahve freely without compulsion returned back to the deen of Islam deen-e-Ibrahimi - Al Islam the religion of our faher Abraham (pbuh).

Christianity and Judaism reached Africa many years before Islam, Islam reached Africa by the arabs invading North Africa and they found many christians and jews and axed them.

@Fatimahrican - No sister, a history lost is not a History forgotten, Africa was largely Islamic at the point the Europeans came, referred to as the bread basket in Islam. Africa was a rich, great civilisation not just in the north, the south, the west and the middle. In American history is writen, African Slaves were the largest labour force that built the new world and built creat irrigation mechanism, systems of order and organisation on plantations..even today records show "arabic".

assalaam alaikum, I am also a revert, but the fact that our forefathers may/may not have been Muslim(as some were of a traditionalist religion, or animists, or combo of these and Islam) doesn't help, because Allah swt guides all kinds of people, and Africans were not the first and only slaves/Muslims in the world. Akhee it is the truth, noble men, educated muslims of Africa were taken as slaves to BUILD the New World. The muslims were knowledgeable, educated and hardworking. Many historians have written on the American slaves speaking Arabic and writing in an arabic script. these were rich, hihgly sophisticated ppl separated from their children.
