It became clear during this interview that Mr. Sarnoff has no idea what's going to happen. What if wealth in the future is having a more stimulating intellectual life, and people no longer care to maintain 1500 sq ft of floorspace per human being or a $40,000 car when a $15000 car gets them there just the same. Social networking and easy access to information is creating a new living standard. It's possible, a $35000 job will get you everything could want in the future.

perhaps the payments should be made directly to the artists, and the media companies should be cut out as the middle man.
