On SF KTVU Mornings on 2, Oakland City Attorney John Russo explains the opposition to aerial spraying of Checkmate, a pheromone-based product used in eradicating the Light Brown Apple Moth, a threat to California agriculture. Russo supports the step of an Environmental Impact Review to study the health risks to the communities and environments that will be the targets of this spraying

  • I agree. The shouldn't be using something new like this until the environmental impact is known.

Until then, they should rely on proven safe pesticides like DDT that have repeatedly been shown in every scientific study to have zero environmental problems.

The WHO is now using DDT again, resulting in millions in africa (mostly pregnant mothers and children) being saved from a grim death due to insect borne diseases and starvation as they destroy crops.

The US should follow their example.
