    "The genes are what makes you you."

    Too gene-centric. If taken literaly, there would be no difference between twins.

    What you learn on life and what experiences you have largely shape your identity and your thoughts.

    Since everything you learn/experience creates new synaptic links in your brain cells, I would take experiences to be more important to define a person's identity than genes.
