This short, shaky, poor quality video is only a small portion of the abandoned section of road that once ran between Trimble and Obion Tennessee.

There's several bridges on this road, the longest one being blocked off with mounds of dirt on each end. On the Obion end you can easily skate past the dirt on a motorcycle; if you're a bit of a daredevil.

Watch my other video, "Abandoned Obion River Bridge" to see what the route on the old bridge looks like.

  • I just googled earth this streatch of Old Highway 3...I saw your photos very nice...it appears however that there is still access to the road on the extreme north and souther end....unless the google earth picture is NOT showing something that is there...

  • The portion of road shown in this video is completely open to drive without going around any dirt piles, roadblocks or anything else.

The dirt pile blocking the road is just before the end of the bridge. The dirt piles on both ends of the bridge do not show up in Google Earth, but trust me, they are there. :-)

  • Thanks for the video. I live north of Troy so I am going to check this out. The trees and bush block the sides. Did you see any driveways? I guess this is almost all bottom/swamp land so probably not.

  • When you leave Trimble, headed north, there are no driveways or houses. Perhaps a field road or two.

You're correct, it's mostly bottom land but there are a couple of fields.

It's 2-1/4 miles from Trimble to the dirt mound blocking access to the Obion River bridge, and about 2 miles to the road going to the wildlife management area and a wooden trestle that you can drive under.

Look at it on Google Earth. I have a few pics of the area posted, so be sure to turn your Panoramio layer on.

  • This video is only a short section of the open southern 2 miles of the road- from the dirt pile toward Trimble.

The other video (Abandoned Obion River Bridge) is from near the southern end dirt pile headed north. The fisherman in that video is fishing at the main channel. I stopped filming just before the northern end dirt pile where I entered the bridge.

If you plan to ride across the bridge on a street bike, the north end at Obion is your only chance of getting around.

  • The bridge across the main channel is in BAD condition. Riding a motorcycle across it wasn't too smart but I'd do it again without a second thought.

Each end of the bridge is blocked by large dirt piles. The north end allows easy access by going around the dirt pile. The Trimble end of the highway is open all the way to the dirt pile. It's approx 1.3 miles between dirt piles, and about 2 miles of deserted highway from the south side to the dirt pile.

Interesting if you're in the area.

  • thay are bypassing my town too

  • I haven't been able to find much on the web. But Wikipedia say it was closed due to those bridges but doesn't say exactly when, Just say several years ago. By the looks I say some time ago. I saw your other video but you comments are turned off on that one. I would guess that is the only part that is closed. Is it legal to be on the road at all since I see the guy fishing.

  • It's listed on maps as Hwy 211, Hwy 3, Davis Highway and Old Hwy 51.

The "new" Highway 51 is a 4-lane divided highway. When a highway is widened to that point the State will bypass towns to allow more room.

On this particular stretch of highway the bridges are in terrible condition. The bridge that crosses to main channel of the Obion River would be a major project with a lot of expense.

I have no idea when it was closed.

Be sure to watch the other video of the Obion River Bridge.

  • Every thing I see on the maps say this is 211 if this is the same road that your other video is on. I'm surprised that Google Earth and Live both still show them on the maps. It was a straiter shot between both towns. Why and when was it abandoned?
