Courtesy of Copyright owner: Summer Nights, Inc /Universal - Donna is one of the most successful & influential female hitmakers of the rock era with 5 Grammy's and 11 additional nominations. See TOP 100 Females of ROCK & ROLL; http://digitaldreamdoor.nutsie.com/pages/best_artists-female.html

Donna became the first female artist to have four number-one singles in a twelve-month period. Also, Grammy winner for best Rock song "Female" 1980. After Dance music went underground in the 80's, Donna went back to her Rock roots and launched a hopeful but short lived Rock career in the early 1980s. The media poised her as the black Pat Benatar. Donna is no stranger to Rock, In her teens she joined a Psychedelic-Rock-Band called "The Crow",named because Donna was the only black member of the group. At eighteen, Donna Gaines (Summer) left home and school to take up a major supporting role in the hippy Broadway Rock musical, "Hair".

  • Long, long before Donna Summer, god created a very special creation - the one and only Miss Diana Ross!!!

  • Yes, he did, luckily his creativity has improved with time. I Love Diana.. But she always sounds the same with that beautiful soft suductive voice.

  • i think Diana's voice was very versatile - beautiful ballad voice - "Touch me in the morning", big belting voice - "Home", disco diva - "Upside down", blues and jazz - "God bless the child"

  • Great ballad voice for sure, but whether she is singing a ballad or an uptempo song the voice and tone is the same. Which is beautiful, but not as versatile? I'm not saying one is better than the other but, out of the 10 videos on my page, do you honestly think Diana could sing any of them fully and true???

  • @andydiana Haha, Diana is not 1 per cent of what Donna Summer is. Diva's 2000 dvd was cancelled and I am sure you know why haha

  • How can Donna Summers voice be compared to Madonna. Donna is great

  • @spartan8 ya got that right my freind

  • This is not F'in Janis joplin... not even Michael Jackson, Jhonny cash or Madonna deserves a place in Rock and roll hall of fame. They are not bad artists... but they're not rock artists!

  • I mean them be 2 good ones I would put as nominees.

  • oh 2 other good picks deep purple and the cars, what do you think????????

  • I guess good pick, but did you see or heard about the others?I mean genesis,Iggy and the stooges, and red hot chili peppers or Kiss, all good nominee picks, hopefully she and the all the ones I named will be there too,I'm amazed it takes people this long to recognize those talents.
