Chapter 2

Maria sent me up to my room whilst she finished off dinner. It was her night to cook, we alternate days to cook. Yes we eat, but we dont need to eat as much as humans, well I eat more than Maria because shes a complete idaltu and Im half. Its all rather strange at first but you soon get your head around it. My room is a rather average sized room, with a small shelf for the minimal books I posses, two battered mahogany wardrobes for my clothing and one cabinet for my extra things. Plopped on my vanity unit is my beloved computer. Although its quite old, its practically my life. I can keep in the 411 with absolutely anything thanks to the internet and plus keep track of my music library.

Yes the only thing that keeps me sane is my music and art. I dont know what Id do if I accidentally lost my IPod that I got for my 16th birthday from Cameron. Ergh Cameron, just thinking of him makes me feel all.yuck. The mushy texts and annoying phone calls are just the tip of the iceberg. There so much cheesiness about him. EVERYTHING about him is cheesy. Hes like living, breathing cheese with legs. I really didnt want to think of him at that moment of time. So I plugged in the ear pieces and laid down on my bed, the sound of Mozart filling my ears. Yes I like classical music, is that a crime? I know some really weird people on the internet who loathe classical music and slogging it off. But classical isnt the only genre I prefer. I like Country music very much, Tim McGraw being one of my favourites, I also like alternative and indie music. Ive never really told anyone about my musical taste because no ones really interested in...me.

After 30 minutes I got up and made my way back downstairs. The TV was on but we hardly ever paid attention to what was on. Maria really didnt like the whole idea of mixing with the human way of life, but we were forced to if we were to be kept a secret.
"Dinners ready," I heard her calling me to the table, my favourite, lasagne was made.
"Thanks," I replied taking my seat and giving my self a portion of food. We sat silently, eating our dinner. I was thinking about school, how it was going to be Friday tomorrow and then the weekend. No school, no fuss and no drama from the kids. What was I going to that weekend? Stay inside, spend those two days on my computer, doing homework, surfing the web and drawing like I always do. It does get a tad bit boring during holidays but then Maria would drag me up to Vancouver to meet and socialise with the others. Honestly, I had no interest in the other idaltu kids at all. They were even worse than the guys at school. They all showed off their talents in petty contests, proclaiming who was the better one. The environment is just way too competitive, not me at all. Im an artist, I love art. I love all aspects of it, bold abstract pieces of work to intricate, ancient designs, it fascinates me how patterns and colour can work in such harmony. I can never manipulate colour like that. Im better off using black and white. Its so---

"Cam called me like 5 times today," Maria broke the silence and disrupted my thoughts too.
"Oh joy," I said sarcastically.
"Now be nice to him Nats, hes just being nice to his future---"
"Oh whatever, I dont wanna deal with him right now." I cut through what she was saying.
"Well he told me his miscalled you about 20 times; he sounded worried," she told me apprehensively.
"Tell him I dont care," I got up and walked off into the kitchen. I dutifully washed my dishes and rushed upstairs, all in the space of a minute. I can do things fast. I went to my bed again, picking up my IPod and letting the soothing music wash me away form this crazy world. However one thought was stuck in my head, playing over and over again.

What am I living this life for?
