Nate Koch, piano. This is unarguably one of the pinnacles of the nocturnes. It illustrates perfectly what we pianists mean when we say that Chopin is full of "ear candy" and at the same time contains Chopin's passionate side in full force!

I think the heroic and consummate arpeggio over a 4-3 suspension at 4:40 is one of the greatest moments in all of the Nocturnes!

And just after that, whispered series of falling diminished intervals at 4:58 is about as magical as you can get!

  • This is one of my favorite nocturnes. And while I love the complete piece, from 6:10 till the end, it is absolutely indescribably beautiful. The last two chords are just the definition of beauty.

  • @Gurdow

Yeah, such a profoundly simple cadence. I love it, too! What I also love is how that upward rise is 7 notes in the right hand per 6 notes in the left, so they don't line up in this really amazing way. But I'm not sure how precisely I pulled it off lol

  • isnt that too much at 3:38 and that bass! did u think out that?

  • It says triple-f there! :)

  • @Sashomei

    i most agree with you...

:) it really is to much...

  • @pincuska Ok I'm smiling as I write this because I can see your point, but still, ok , this is the moment I feel! And so, why shouldn't I just go for it and do something heartfelt and unique? Even if it's what you wouldn't do. Great music can stand up to a great number of different interpretations!

    :)

  • Chopin is much more then " ear candy " for me , he emulates the struggles of life emotionally , moralistically. He is my ying to my own yang.

  • Beautiful rendition.

Did you know Chopin was an opium addict?

Care to guess what opium feels like?
