During the heat wave and fires in Greece birds where falling. I found this swift outside my window. After a day another was brought to me that was also injured possibly by cat on it's back and slightly on one wing. I called the wild life hospital of Greece and they gave me first aid instructions. Mimis would'nt eat ...I called the local vet and he suggested that I feed him flies and spiders .... I was in despair and on the net searching for videos on swallow birds. I found the 'Pi Chi' videos and eating techniques of Andre ...and they saved Mimis and Mimika lives from Japan...! Thank you Pi Chi and Andre and youtube. Mimis stayed with us 5 days and Mimika 4. The most sensational feeling was when they flew out of my palms!

  • I am sure this little bird knew you were there to help it even when it did bite. They spend so much of their life flying, if they had a saying I am certain it would be "the skys the limit", it must have been strange for it to be feeling grounded and must have been rather ill for it to land and change what is its habit of a lifetime. Thank you for looking after it, if everyone cared as much as you, the world wouldn't need healing!

  • It's nice too see that still someone cares bout wild animals ;) Without your help it wouldn't survive. I see it's a young common swift. I had the common swift chicks and during the hot days they didn't want eat until I watered them.

  • Common Swifts can't walk well or stand on the ground. They need to be thrown from at least 1,5 meters high. ;)

  • sweet film. watch out for big parasites when handling swifts!

  • sweet

  • We just had one of these make its way across the grass in our back garden (a mixture of rolling and flapping), in an effort to make its way into our house! I think it was panicked as they don't like being on the ground. It ended up making its way towards our DVD shelf rack in the shade! We took it to the vets about an hour afterwards. It liked its head being stroked, as that's supposed to relax it. I wish I could have kept it. Never seen one up close before. They have the cutest faces. :)

  • They can eat waxworms and mill worms if you chop the head off and they can't take off from the ground or a hand, they have to be lifted into the air. They only land once a year and that's to nest.

  • god b super careful they have mites thatll get all over u
