Doi Tao Lake - Northern Thailand

Doi Tao Lake is 130km southwest of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand.
This huge man made body of water was created by the building of the Bhumibol Dam.


It's a popular recreational spot for Thai's and non-Thai's alike.

The floating huts you see in the video are used by local fisherman (the ones with the huge cylindrical fish traps) and day trippers (they toe you into the middle of the lake, anchor you, then you can order food and drink from the bankside restaurants where it is brought out to you by boat)
karaoke & music is also available on these floating huts (as is enclosed wc facilities) so you can stay on the lake all day eating, drinking and being merry.

It's quite an experience and a great day out...

I filmed this in January '08 with my Panasonic FZ18, myself and a group of Thai friends spent all day in the middle of the lake on one of the rafts. Food was good, and the Chang kept flowing...

didn't stay overnight.. just a day trip from Chiang Mai (1.5 hours to get to it by car)

There maybe some guesthouses nearby, but never really looked..

if u just going for the day to swim, eat and relax on the rafts, no need to book... there is a lot of them !

cost to stay, only what you barter for, my friend. it may be something you have beside dollar, it may be a smile and a promise, it may be the skill you have at fishing, it may be 12 marlboro.
