The 2009 Art of Caring Award is being presented to a group of volunteers who have shown exceptional dedication in promoting the arts in our community.
The Art Center Cooperative is on a mission to enrich our city with an appreciation of the visual arts. Just drive by one of the math and science magnet schools, Sallye B. Mathis Elementary, and youll see stunning murals of a space shuttle launch and our solar system painted by their artists on the outside of the school building. Other examples of their work can be found at Community Connections where another spectacular mural was painted, along with cartoon characters on classroom doors. The Art Center Cooperative, a nonprofit organization, provides Jacksonville with this wonderful group of professional artists who are intent on improving the quality of life in our city through art. By combining just three primary colors and black and white with a lot of experience and expertise, this group of volunteer artists makes colorful magic. With three more volunteer projects in the works so far this year, they are on their way to making Jacksonville a more visually beautiful place to live.
