Volunteer lifeboat crews from the RNLI at Falmouth and The Lizard were launched yesterday evening (Tuesday 2 February 2010) to respond to a ferry with a fire in the engine room. This footage shot by Falmouth LB shows the Lizard LB and the Coastguard tug, the Anglian Princess assisting.

  • What do they need the coastguard for?

All the crew should have been taught firefighting skills as part of sea survival training.

  • The RNLI crew are trained in firefighting skills, but this is with the aim of keeping them safe should a fire break out on board the lifeboat itself. When it comes to an incident like this, we very much rely on the cooperation of other specialist assets that can help.
