  • Hello! thanks for sharing

and can I ask you question? where is this place?

  • near Kagoshima in Southern Japan

  • Hi, Im a Shingon priest. The priest conducting this Goma is Ikeguchi Eikan. He is kind of well known, but has somewhat of a reputation for being a showman. He is a member of the Koyasan Shingon School (a kogi school). Just for the record, the goma is not a fusion of local Japanese religion. As pointed out, the goma (homa) was practiced in India and is also practiced in Tibetan Buddhism today. The goma he is doing is the sokusai goma 息災護摩 (not saito goma).

  • Thank you for your informations

  • is this at Saifukuji?

  • I've actually met Rev. Eikan when he stayed at the Koyasan Temple in LA a few years back.

  • Its the Heart Sutra and fudo myoo's mantra: Nômaku sanmanda bazaradan senda

    makaroshada sowataya un tarata kanman.

  • Seeing the quote from the Pali Tipitaka, are you a Theravadin?

If so, do you think Theravada Buddhism has no 'cultural trappings'? Look at Sri Lanka and Thailand, that would be obvious, although the Sangha is silent.

Buddhism adapts where it lands, so long as it's within the Dharma boundary and what you just watched is from Japanese Vajrayana Buddhism.

It is more insightful and Right Speech when people comment on religious practices differing from their own with prior reading and research.

  • heart sutra

  • Beautiful! I was lucky enough to participate in a Goma in 2005, and it truly touched me! Can anyone tell me the name of the chant in this video? Thanks for any information you can provide!
