Opening for Red Hot Chili Peppers
October 23, 2006
Wachovia Center, Philadelphia

A jam based on Jacob van Lennepkade, from Omar's self-titled record by his quintet. There is a revision of this song (Jacob II) on Omar's quintet record, The Apocalypse Inside of an Orange. Deantoni Parks was the drummer at this concert, as he filled in after Blake Fleming was fired. Deantoni was not fired, he was simply hired to finish the RHCP tour with the group.

Deantoni has since returned to the band full-time as of 2010.

Funny story, my 3 friends and I all love both The Mars Volta and Red Hot Chili Peppers, and sat in seats that were a whole column closer to the stage during TMV set. When we came back after the intermission, we realized what we did but were pretty happy about it. Obviously there wasn't an overwhelming number of people present for their set.

  • Mars Volta drummers keep exploding. : (

  • this guy, Deantoni, is touring with Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group this September though!

  • I love how you hear people yelling "what the fuck?!" watching them play.

  • that was me just thrilled to be hearing Jacob

  • Blake didn't forget how to play drums. He's a phenomenal drummer. The bottom line is that we'll never know what turmoil occurred behind the scenes, because frankly Omar talks out his ass a lot and is incredibly derisive of former band members -- Blake, Jon Theodore, Jim Ward, Ben Rodriguez, etc. Who knows his actual relationship with these people is, and who cares, as long as he keeps making good music? Just because Omar says something doesn't make it Gospel truth.

  • @veniyanwarrior lol.

  • love the jakob jam from this era

  • hahah some of the comments here are so dumb. blake certainly didn't forget how to play the drums. blake is my drum instructor. he told me omar and cedric were still using heroin on this tour- think they were making rationale decisions? blake also had several other projects, studio work and private lessons that he wanted to focus on, rather than being committed to 1 band. bottom line is that every drummer they've ever had is absolutely stunning.

  • @lellowranger hard to tell from this video.. anybody know what he is like compared to pridgeon and the other guys?

  • @JefeElMilagro i just wish theodore stoke around. This guy is dope as well.. touring with omar.

  • oh really?
