Mac Pro 8 Core, GT8800, OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

The movement of 16.000 stars was simulated in realtime (30 fps). This is possible because the program runs in the graphics card, eliminating the data transport between CPUs, main memory and graphics memory.

Music: Interlude

Yeah EG 5970 with 4Teraflops? Single precision that is, 500 Gflops at DP

  • Beautiful!

  • Beautifully done. IS there some where I can get the source code?

  • The built-in screen recording seems to be a problem when trying to record Galaxies. I'm guessing it's because it's having to use the GPU for calculating the stars, and render the stars and record the screen. While the only noticeable effect while recording was a drop from 30 to 28 updates per second, the resulting video had black frames once a second or so. I was only able to record it properly when using a separate GPU to render the OpenGL.

  • If you had snow leopard when you made this, you could have used the built in screen recording in quicktime :P. Still nice though.
