Walt Disney had a weird mother complex. All of them (except for maybe 3) are dead when the movie starts, or killed somewhere in the movie.

i wish they could make another one where ariel's mother hadnt actually died. instead they captured her. and then they put her in the ocean across the world and it took her forever b/c she kept getting lost. but finally found her family. it would have been adorable.
