Baby Hamsters

Hamster giving birth to 4 babies. It is interesting watch how the hamster in labour knows instinctively
what to do. How she alone delivers, suckles and cleans the babies all at the same time. The placenta she feeds
on provides her with the nourishment she needs in feeding the babies. All the 4 babies were fine and like all healthy babies they were playfully running around the tank when they were 2 weeks old.
ps " No worries" mum hamster is used to human handling as she is frequently let out of the tank to play around under close supervision when the tank is cleaned & let dry. Handling of the baby is done with utmost care as the baby is not scooped but is rolled over from paper to spoon. Those who are not sure how their hamsters will react are advised to not disturb the hamster-in-labour as this may traumatised the mum.

My cousin's hamster died today along with 4 of her babies (she had 6 babies in total). One of them is still alive. The first one was eaten by their father yesterday :(
