Katie Brianna is an Americana and alt. country singer from Sydney, Australia. A high school drop-out who preferred playing her red Fender electric to going to class, Katie began writing songs as a way to escape her seemingly incurable shyness. With her sweet, sorrowful voice, it wasn't long before she caught the attention of some of her home country's finest musicians and sure enough she was collaborating with Paul Kelly and Bill Chambers before her former classmates had even graduated.
Songwriting has always come naturally to Katie and her early efforts were rewarded with numerous awards and accolades. But her shyness, and her concern that she hadn't lived enough to write the songs she wanted to sing, saw her take an extended break from performing and recording.
After some years, some soul searching and some time alone to think about what kind of album she wanted to make, 24-year-old Katie has emerged with Dark Side Of The Morning, a deeply moving debut LP that meditates on sadness, suburban loneliness and young womanhood. The songs and the voice behind them are uniquely Katie's, yet listening to them it is easy to hear why she has been compared favorably to Kasey Chambers and Iris Dement.
Dark Side Of The Morning is out now.
"Katie Brianna's high and lonesome, old-school country voice makes her
one of the most exciting emerging artists in the Australian Americana
scene today. One to watch."
-- Emma Swift, Saturday Night Country, ABC Local Radio.
"The first time I put on 'Dark Side of the Morning' I fell in love with it. Beautiful songs, beautiful voice, and even though it sounded different to anything I'd heard before it was strangely familiar. A breath of fresh air.."
- Kasey Chambers
