What if Star Trek: The Motion Picture was an episode of the classic series? Here's the first segment of my fan edit, which is posted on YouTube in six parts.

The concept here comes from Star Trek history. Star Trek: The Motion Picture began its life as a TV script called "In Thy Image" that was written for a proposed second series called "Star Trek: Phase II." After that concept was scrapped and a motion picture project started, "In Thy Image" was chosen as the film concept and was expanded into a much longer movie screenplay.
This is my vision of what "In Thy Image" may have been like by starting with some other fan edits and adding Classic Trek music, and other touches. The end of each segment corresponds to a break for TV advertisements.
The full rough cut is 60 minutes in length including credits, which is actually too long for a TV show (Classic Treks were about 50 minutes long before you put in commercials). However, it is about 41% of the size of the longest version of Star Trek: The Motion Picture that clocks in at 145 minutes.
Apologies for the low sound. I encoded the initial WMV I was using at two low a level before doing a lot of the edits, and to correct it I really need to go back and do it over, which I hope to take on at some point.
@Gigawattboy thanks!

I always hated this movie. Its way more enjoyable as an episode. It feels more right this way. Good job!
