Ruth Gordon lived next door to Katherine Hepburn but, in her comment about Greta Garbo, failed to mention that she also lived two blocks away from Garbo who lived in quiet seclusion down the block from us when we lived on East 52nd St, Manhattan. Julie Harris also lived around the corner. It was a paparazzi-free zone in those days and everyone ignored celebrities except when the celebrity, Julie Harris in this case, sail hello first.

Actually I read in Mia Farrow's book that Ruth Gordon didn't like Woody. Apparently she warned Mia that he couldn't be trusted. It's pretty fantastic to hear her talk. Fascinating and wonderful manners.
