We look at a problem involving a triangle with side lengths 6,7 and 8. We need to find a distance from one vertex to the meet of a median and a vertex (or angle) bisector. In this video we give a solution involving straigthforward triangle by triangle analysis using rational trigonometry.

This video is part of the WildTrig series, which introduces Rational Trigonometry and applies it to many different aspects of geometry.

  • The formula for the median is introduced in WT18. But it is derived as the special case of Stewart's theorem in WT27. Note that in WT27, if we call the base quadrance P, then P1 + P2 = P/2.
