He got it on in 7 minutes, while stopping to give instructions. It took me 20 minutes. That's the difference from "mechanically inclined" and a fast mechanic. Getting it off took me an hour because the bottom was hard to get off. A mirror underneath with a flashlight helps to make sure you are not cross threading. I have 127k miles on my 94 camry and the filter coming off said "toyota" it. Fuel was clean. Haven't noticed a difference, but manual says every 30k miles.

@HudsonKnowsEconomics next time you remove the filter,try to prevent the gasoline from leaking out the filter. Once the filter is remove,pour all the gasoline from both end of the filter into a clear/clean glass bottle. It will help u inspect how contaminated is the fuel and how often should it be change. different gas provider, provide different quality of gasoline. don`t forget to add a bottle of LUCAS fuel injector to one full tank of gasoline.

Thanks for the pointer to Lucas. I was just thinking about cleaning the fuel injectors and trying to decide how. My mileage was 20 mpg in the city and maybe 25 hwy. Catalytic convertor probably clogged too. But after a year with a dead battery, I charged it up and after the engine turned over about twice, it was running. Filter inside old canister is the darkest brown you can imagine. Like dark chocolate.

@HudsonKnowsEconomics a clogged Catalytic convertor will cause serious damage to the engine and o2 sensor. Clogged exhaust system will cause burning of the exhaust valve affecting valve seal performance. just make sure the exhaust manifold is not glowing red hot.a clean fuel system promote fuel efficiency and optimum performance.a battery will last a long time,just make sure you disconnect the cable from the terminal.

@SteveXnycperformance That's another good pointer. Exhaust manifold seems surprisingly hot. Since I changed fuel filter, engine seems to stay cooler a lot longer. After 20 minute drive, it still was not up to its normal temp. Maybe I do see some more power. I had to replace the O2 monitor a few years ago. I've used fuel injector cleaners before and maybe I let it get too concentrated and I read that can also blow the O2. Good battery idea if I let it sit again.

You need a 3/4 open end wrench for top and bottom and a 17 mm open end for top and 14 mm open end for bottom. You can painfully substitute a vice grip for the mm, but the 3/4 is required. I managed to get it off by removing just the cover of the air filter and spinning it over op top of engine and loosening the long clamping bolt as much as possible to let the canister spin almost freely without having to remove the whole bracket. Mine is 1994 camry 4 cyl.

@PocketsGotBigMoney under the air filter you will find 3 to 4 10mm bolt, remove them first then the plastic air box.
