Peak Oil Survival

Thanks for sharing your perspective and preps. I'd suggest you really take a hard look at how you are heating your home. Propane is a distilled product of crude oil, where natural gas is not. Beyond both, wood in many areas is a viable alternative, as is solar hot water and passive solar design in other parts of the country. Also, how far will 20 gallons really get you? While it might be enough for a short term crisis, Peak Oil is a long emergency that won't have a quick solution.

Don't you just love your food storage/pantry? I'll sit in mine and just look at all the food, it's quite the comforting feeling. It's my favorite room in the house, well maybe a close second after the garage.

You need more food supplies with lots of variety for your kids. I can eat beans and rice but my daughters are spoiled so I have to store lots of stuff for them.

as the price of oil goes up, people will reduce their usage. and with the advances we are making in fuel technology, i dont see how peak oil would affect/cause a situation of civil unrest. i mean, if you look at biodiesel from algal blooms, it is SOOO promising. (granted, the fact that it might make oil obsolete... its unsettling for big oil companies. so they'll probably do whatever it takes to impede the development of the technology.) Humans are innovative. We can find alternative fuels

That fuel tank can explode, you can be completely killed, and that's 7000 pounds of possible leakage into your soil by a stray bullet making your garden and land turn to poison...best to ween yourself off oil and remember it belongs where it came from...nothing good (long term) can come from such an idea and maybe after your 1000 gallons are gone you catch up to the other ideas out there...no disrespect here, just your doing what you know I guess..keep learning...we all have an opinion don't we?

If i saw that big gas tank outside i would kill you and steal it if there where really bad times.
So if i were you i would have built a shed around it or something.

rice is worthless.
it only fills you up,
it has almost no nutrition.
barley and wheat are better.

@haremountain gas can last 3 years it a preservative is added to the fuel can. diesel is prone to bacterial brake down so a preservative must be use in storage as well.
Sleeplesserf, You might want to consider Solar Cells & Wind Generation for Power & Solar Heating elements for heating during Winter.

I have about 30 gals of gas also just in case. You need to add fuel stabalizer as Cdltpx mentioned. I bought some good fuel stabalizer its very inexpensive. It can preserve your gasoline for up to 2 yrs if you double the recommended dosage. Wood stove, vitamins, wool clothing, weapons, tools, water storage, solar panels with back up battery...etc. "Hope for the best, prepare for the worse"
