Personally, I think the tempo is pretty much spot on - I don't want to flog a dead horse, but Wagner himself complained bitterly that conducters took passages far too slowly. In this case any slower and the aggressive, repeated bass figure would just sound turgid.
This is a terrific performance marred only by some hideously out of tune clarinets.
