@drevildruid Okay let me check Merriam-Webster. "any of the various economic and political theories advocating collective of governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods". Hmm, that matches my definition almost exactly and not yours at all.

@BloodskullMannoroth Actually you're mistaken. Look up the definition of Socialism (everything owned by the people) and then consider my previous post (govt of the people, by the people, for the people). The wording is different but the idea is the same. Thanks for playing.

Apple pie isn't really American. It was being made in Britain (and I'm sure many places), prior to Christopher Columbus even landed in what we know call the U.S. I know this isn't strictly relevant to the video, but just thought I'd put it out there.

@drevildruid Socialism isn't your definition, it's public ownership of the means of production and capital. America started out as a capitalist country, you're silly for hinting otherwise.

Planes , trains and automobiles. Doctors, nurses and electricity, the telephone and all those "socialized things that the "Govt" provides or "subsidizes" are all things private men with private money invented. They created the economic conditions that lead to the life we now have and that some thing are entitled to. Capitalism is the only economic system that has ever existed. It is only the owner of that economic model that changes. You (private) or them (the Govt).

Our government does not serve us because the American Right Wing has been bought by the corporations and represents only super rich and the CEOs. Today, the bottom 99% is really just a class of modern-day serfs. We must take our country back!

yes socialism is deeply rooted in the past 60 years of american history. since that time we have taken on an irrevocable amount of debt, 80 trillion in unfunded liabilities, 50 trillion in private citizen debt, and the states have taken on hundreds of billions in debt to pay for public pensions. even FDR said it; you let public sector unions exist, the country will be extorted into bankruptcy. Go Socialism! fools.

Last time I checked, our personal healthcare is not really taken care of unless you fund it out of your own ass, and school is only "free" up to the 12th grade. After that, greedy collegiate entities that are run like corporations fuck you hard on tuition... If the U.S. is going to be socialist, stop calling it democracy and get real.

Do socialists ever actually wonder where the wealth that they need to fund their social programs comes from?
I am a socialst. President Obama is a fine man, but he is not a socialist.

Socialism (in my opinion) can best be defined as "A government of the people, by the people and for the people." Sound familiar? It should, it's in the Preamble of our Constitution. We started out that way where the people decided who what and where. Now the US is a Capitalist country where a small minority (super rich, bankers) control everything and we the people are their servants. It's what the Soviet Union became under Communism because of corruption that went unchecked.
