@opera1dan2 She does not die in Euripides version. I have a copy of his. Helios, her grandfather, provides her with the sun chariot and she leaves Jason alone. She also takes the corpses of the children. I haven't read it in a while, so I'm not too sure, though.

@opera1dan2 Agreed - and given Antonacci can turn Carmen into a sorceress, her Medea can do anything she damn well pleases! This subject was/is popular with playwrights, authors and composers alike so its open season and that's not bad

@BGSourgas OK. I think if you look at Medea's story, she goes off and has roles later on in Greek mythology. Maybe this is different in the opera then, although I think escaping from a burning temple would not be beyond her powers!

@opera1dan2 For Cherubini she's supposed to set fire to the temple at the end - that she's inside at the time is an assumption on my part but a safe one i thought; she did just murder the bambini

@BGSourgas Medea doesn't die in the story though - I've not seen the opera live, do they often kill her off then? I think I am right in saying she doesn't die in the Eurypides version either.
She's great! and medea standing alone facing the audience at the end is actually kind of unsettling: her death is almost a moral requirement after all her badassness and this prod denies that, mind you giasone's a bit of a turd
but i'm probably wrong
ace video anyway
