Donna the Prima Donna 2012 Remix - Donna Reed Tribute

I always loved Dion's track, particularly for the bass line that is so SONOROUS it has a physical effect on the body. However, in all the videos of the track I have seen, while good, do not offer the full depth-of-the-bass. So I decided to 'rewire' and give it, as that great philosopher Johnny Rotten once said "some B*ll@cks!

I also wanted to bring out the, almost medieval, polyphony (get me...!) of the vocals. I have not added anything to the track and all the sounds were produced from the original recording.

As for the visuals I could have gone for Donna Marie Pinciotti, of that 70s Show, which has already been done, or those smashing pop-punksters, The Donnas. However, as lovely as Laura Prepon and the Donna girls are, they are only pretending to be Donnas. So, in the end, there was no other choice than the Prima Donna Assoluta herself, Donna Reed, who was a Donna from the moment she was born to the day she died.

Donna Reed, for you youngsters, played Jimmy Stewart's wife in It's A Wonderful Life, which you have probably been made to watch each Christmas by your parents (and with very good reason!). As well as being a WONDERFUL actress, Donna Reed was also a committed activist and a trailblazer for women in the film and television industry. She refused to sign a major contract with Hollywood, until she had completed her college education. During World War Two, she was GI sweetheart, who insisted on trying to reply personally to all the letters she received. During the Vietnam War, which she opposed, she was a leading member of Another Mother for Peace (AMP). Even though she died in January 1986, her memory is supporting and inspiring young hopefuls through The Donna Reed Foundation for the Performing Arts, a non-profit organization offering performing arts scholarships, set up by her famiy and friends after he passing aged only 64.

Donna Reed certainly was a Prima Donna, but in the original sense of the word - a leading lady whose achievements place them in a category above all others.

N.B. Donna Reed never "wanted to be like Zsa Zsa Gabor", that would have been like a race horse wishing it was a donkey
