Personal Trainer Mike Behnken, MS, CSCS

The piriformis is a deep hip external rotator. Deep means it is closer to the center of the body.

It is chronically tight mostly in men because of seated posture.

A tight piriformis can cause knee problems due to improper alignment of the knee cap as well as piriformis syndrome which can lead to sciatica.

Lie flat on your back and put one leg up at a 90 degree angle. Pull the knee towards the opposite shoulder while you keep your back flat and other leg flat on the ground.

Perform this after the SMFR to get best results. Make sure you hold for 30 seconds.
