VICTORIA - The cost of a regular litre of gas in Greater Victoria is now 123.9 cents. That's up seven cents over yesterday. Many motorists were caught off guard by the spike. One woman says she's in shock and adds her driving habits will be curbed by the higher price at the pump.
Some analysts say unrest in oil-rich nations like Libya is to blame for the increase. The cost of a barrel of crude oil is up 16% in one week. Others say a strong economy is driving up demand for fuel products.
The higher cost of travel doesn't just apply to our roads. Westjet admits there have been two small fare increases, on some flights, since January. A Vancouver travel expert suggests there's a 100% chance that when gas prices climb, air fare prices will follow.
