Wonderful song from a wonderful singer . A song that we regally called the six um's back in the day and like most of his songs they have stood the test of time . There is a decent UK cover version by Wayne Fontana also. Great upload.

Thanks for all the info of one of Northern Soul legendary charismatic artiste....im so regretful i didnt make the effort to see him live having seen so many other Soul Icons....Jackie Wilson being my favourite....however this guy is up there on the top tier....superlative post thanks

On this day in 1964 {January 18th} Major Lance performed "Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'

Two weeks earlier on January 4th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #5 and spent 11 weeks on the Top 100

It reached #1 on the Cashbox Magazine R&B Music chart {Billboard Magazine did not publish a R&B chart in 1964}

Sadly Major Lance passed away at the young age of 55 on Sept. 3rd, 1994 {heart disease}

RIP Mr. Lance & Mr. Clark {1929-2012}
