That is unfortunate that you couldn't make it. To you he is your Great Grandfather, But he is also a piece of Gospel Music History. I'm really into things/people who are of historical significance. Hopefully you will be able to make the next one.

Of all the Bass singers I have heard. London Parris is the best. It seems like many of the best Bass singers were really tall and thin. Perhaps that was in times of yesteryear only. I know that there are some exceptions.

I once heard London sing down OFF THE BOTTOM of the piano!

the vid is testimony to how great gospel music used to be and how hard we have to work today to match it -- a very hard task... no pitch correction computers then and probably more musicians had better pitch sense.

Horace Parrish IS still alive he is doing really good. He is my great grandfather and just turned 85. They had a party and sang around the piano like always. I live out of state and couldn't make it.

I am glad to know that he is still alive and kicking....always thought he was one of the best tenors and loved the endings when he would go up! How about Jimmy Taylor? Remember them when I lived in Tampa in the '80's and worked at the Social Security Office.

Does anyone know if Horace is still alive..he was born in 1921, but I have not seen or heard anything about him...lived in Tampa FL!

Notice how smooth John Matthews is on this song..he was right in there with Doy Ott of the Statesmen!
You can call those boys,,,The Rebels, The Confederates, The MidnightRiders or The Red legg Strangers I don't care what you call them, those boys can sing.
