Im not sure Ethanol is the only answer to Americas (or the rest of planet) energy needs. It is a start that needs to be married by other technologies.
The big oil companies as well as tobacco and Wal-Mart types companies have put their preverbal foot in our front doors and made us (Americans) think we cant live without them.
We made the oil companies, we made the tobacco companies and we maintain their hold on us by not looking for other sources of supply.

Comparing gasoline to ethanol gasoline takes much more energy to produce and is finite. Ethanol does take energy to produce but on a large scale is very economic.
There is plenty of food and nonfood stocks that can provide ethanol in vary quantities of yield.
Many farmers were hired to grow hemp, a type of cannabis for making rope in WW1 and WW2. Many of these fields still exist today, not all corn is grown for food, and Tobacco can be used as stock of replaced by other vegetation.

This nation relies on foreign sources of energy more that any other nation in the world. If you look at the political situation(s) in African nations that are dire need of food. You would notice that the African government of that nation is corrupt or not in control of thugs and gangs and so called warlords.
The United States is not responsible for feeding other nations that kill that nations nationals. This nation needs to build its own energy independence as Brazil is doing.

overpopulation is the problem. It is true that the US comes first with the products we produce and can do as the US wants. I think there should be much research to help starving nations Although we dont owe the world anything. Without personal ownership all the help in the world will not do much for anyone. I believe burning corn for fuel will not be a long term solution

McCain is about to take the Long Dirt Nap as his health is slipping faster than Reagan's health did. It will be refreshing to see a Woman as president who is not afraid to go hunting or fishing.

Cowards always blame corn ethanol while forgetting there are 20 crops that make 2x to over 10x more ethanol per acre than corn.

I like the fact that once we start making our own energy, we won't need a military 10x larger than it is now. The middle east can go to hell for all I care.
