What your friends see: A splodge of pixels.
What you see: Massive torrent of underground water crashing furiously through the walls of the fortress, while the miner dwarf who unleashed the fury grabs tight to the walls of the place to avoid being crushed under the massive pressure. The water flows rapidly into the magma, turning it into obsidian which can be later used to forge new weapons. A fire imp living in the caverns also took it in the ass, which is good.

I heard of dwarf fortress recently from the noob comic and from information i have gained so far minecraft is a uncomplex 3D version of dwarf fortress...

Too bad nobody thought to make a guide on creating your own graphic set...
-
Bad idea. That's gonna destroy your framerate with constant cave ins

You can get a lot of 2D tile graphic packs that other players put together to replace the ASCII. I just started DF with graphic packs and it becomes so much more playable for me.

This game is sooo complicated, complicated isn't even a strong enough word to describe it.

@Jarelk Basically, there is 1 block between the high-pressure water and magma. A dwarf is on the magma side, and mines the block. Stuff happens.
how did you get so much pressure?

@grubyub It was about 6 or 7 levels under water
