Tempest High score. This is a PC version which I found to be most accurate to the original arcade upright model from 1980. This is me playing, normaly I can get to this point fairly easily. I have done better (the greens, and I have made it past level 99 a few times), but it has been quite some time.

  • You've been to level 99? What's past the green levels? More green? Blue again? White would be cool.

  • You've been to level 99?

    --- Yes.

What's past the green levels? More green?

--- Once you clear the last shape, it starts giving you random shapes, but they are all green. The spike configuration is different also. For instance, you may see a square with spike stubs in the beginning.

Blue again? White would be cool.

--- I thought the same thing. It would be cool to have a white or pink set.

  • i wish i had access to a video like this when i was a kid. My friend use to tell these bullshit stories about how he saw someone get to the purple screen. This would have proved him wrong

  • "I CAN'T SEE!"

  • @FFFFbody They had originally planned to do a 3d version of Space Invaders, but it wasn't working out, so Dave Theurer came up with Tempest instead. He said he was inspired by a dream that he had about monsters coming up from a hole in the ground. An early version had the shooter stationary while the tube spun around it, but it was making people nausous so they changed it so the shooter moved and the tubes stayed stationary.

  • Hey buddy, i remember playin' this game back in the '80's. I remember my brother saying that Tempest was a mistake. Like, the makers envisioned something different, but it was so popular they let it be. Do you ever hear anything like it or you think my brother was just pullinhg my leg?

  • this guy is the best tempest player in the world !!!!!! GO COLONEL!

  • by the way, the XBOX 360 gameroom version of tempest replaced the invisible levels with white, if you want to see what they look like. the difficulty is the same though. not sure if the XBLA version does this. check under my username for the video. later

  • you should upload your replays, if you use the emulator MAME which will record your inputs, to the site at //replay MARPIRC net/ that way we can see the full game, at full clear resolution.. the highest score there is 400k . good game, but want to see the whole thing..

  • I can't seem to find an input device which repilcates the accuracy of the arcade cabinet. It's my favorite game, and I have a copy for my PC. I refuse to play because I can't control the ship accurately.

    What controller are you using???

  • I have the polybius in my pc

  • This was THE greatest video game OF ALL TIME!! My sister and I played the hell out of this back in the day- I never knew there were invisible levels- I could barely get into the reds back in the day- Ha!
