1941 Taylorcraft Airplane post-wreck

82 year old Grandpa Cheney who has been a pilot for 64 years, crashed his 1941 Taylorcraft airplane in a muddy onion field near his airport, Martin Airfield in Walla Walla, Washington, after being blinded by the sun and being hit by a very strong gust of wind and forced into some trees. Grandpa has a broken back but survived; the Taylorcraft did not.

Wow - what a trip. I used to work there in the late '70s while attending WWVA. I had a 7AC back then. Now I work at SFO - some things do change - lol. Good to see the rather unchanged inside of the shop; oh, and the T-Craft. Hope the old guy gets another chance to fly it ...

@rpurdey If you are ever back in the area, come check our Martin Field! The inside of the shop looks the same, but the outside has some awesome new hangers, an extended runway, runway lights, new paint everywhere, asphalt, etc., etc. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :) Grandpa & Grandma Cheney (David & Wilma) have put a lot of work & money into Martin Field over the past 12 years or so and Martin Field is looking awesome! :) I also shared your comment with them.
