Chief Economist Jong-Wha Lee presents ADB's revised macroeconomic forecasts for the region, and explains how a broader use of economic openness can make developing Asia more resilient to global shocks.
Asia as a whole is certainly experiencing more dynamism that in the past, but there are systemic risks still plaguing the region. Dictatorship regimes in some Asian countries and the massively serious corruption that results, along with terrorism and environmental pollution are a major drag on the region. Though some cleaning up is being done, it is very slow.
