When you post in a newsgroup or even on a youtube user's page who's subject is say Buddhism, Islam, some other religion or even Atheism, its a form of trolling to sit there & proselytize via posts to these users & those that post in the user's page. Likewise, If an Atheist goes to a Christian user's page telling them to abandon their faith, it could be considered trolling. Now, if you receive an unsolicited invite to join someone's page, your within your right to criticize the user's page.

Unfortunately, many groups reach a tipping point, where so many posts have been sent to the troll, & so many posts have been posted trying to get people to stop posting to the troll, & then arguments occur about the posting, that some group simply start loosing so many users, they simply fall apart. Unfortunately, some users are trolls & don't know it. I have seen some Christians who think they are simply trying to simply spread the good word as they call it, but try & force it on others.

You hit the nail on the head, anyone who knows anything about any social media dating all the way back to the first computer bulletin boards can tell you, the trolls as you said will post some inflammatory post, that gets other users riled up and gets them firing angry responses back. The troll will post just enough replies to get things really going & then simply sit back as the posts from users grow, soon, other users will start post messages to stop posting, but its too late.
