the only reason the calender stops at that date is because the mayan calender worker was asked to go out drinking with his friends, stopping his work thinking he will get back to it later. But after getting very drunk the simple mayan calender making found himself takeing bets that he could catch a spear with his teeth, unfortuantly that went wrong. after the funeral family members went back to his hut/house to find his unfished work, not knowing how to carry on the left it as a mark of respect.

Of course, because the Mayans believed everything occurs in a cyclic existance, the 'end' of the long count calendar simply means you start over at the beginning.

We are on the threshold of a new age of space colonization, freedom from drudgery of work, expansion of consciousness. 30 thousand years sounds an acceptable cycle for some of these "ages"
