I have graphical bugs in Planescape Torment 1.1 in Windows 7 64bit.

Issues:
- Shifting/moving characters when they are standing still
- Walking backwards (facing one way, walking the other)
- Characters split in half (first half is where second half should be and vice versa)
- freezing for a few seconds after casting a spell
- Fog of War problems

Specs:
Windows 7 64bit
GeForce 285 GTX driver 197.45

Turning off hardware acceleration options in the game fixes the issues, but reduces the framerate and the game become jerky and almost unplayable.

It's an old game but i'd rather not install XP again :)

If any of you have tried the game. can you tell about issues or if it works fine?

There are some reports that ati cards might work just fine with older games. Is NVIDIAs frequent driver releases making it difficult to test enough games compared to AMD?

  • One of the reasons I started playing it again was the spell-casting. Spells are awesome in this game. But Spells are not just laggy, that's an understatement. They are fucked up! It can't display them properly on my 9800GT.

Turn on/off all the software rendering all you want but it won't fix it and neither will patching the game.

If I could run the game without Direct Draw enabled in windows 7 Full-screen, I'd play the game again.

In the meantime, I'll keep my fingers crossed for a remake!

  • Have you fixed it ,.. ? If I turn hardware acceleration for transparent textures off,.. they turn around but it is still wrong,..

  • @BlackSephir Hell yea it's a feature. Everyone should embrace it.

  • @BlackSephir It is a bug... it's called the moonwalk bug, for obvious reasons. You can fix it by enabling software mirroring.

  • Walking backwards is not a bug, it's feature.

  • @nado2s Forgot to mention that enabling the software mirroring did work nicely at stopping the 'walking backwards' bug, its just the other options that do nothing for me.

  • When you say you turned off hardware acceleration from within the game, do you just mean you turned on the software transparency and the other 2 options? As those dont fix the bugs for me, I still get a crash at the same time during spell casting. I've managed to get to the end of the game by occasionally using windowed mode, as most of the time the game wont crash with that mode, just mess up a lot but manage to recover.

  • it`s not that bad, seeing how the game is now 11 yrs old also mods help, they get rid of alot of these bugs. but sadly it also gets rid of the inft. exp glitch`s thru-out the game.

i have lvl 25 int, that will give you a 35% exp bonus every time you lvl up. so say you earn 1000+ 35% exp bonus= 1350 exp. just imagine the exp, i have a lvl 60 mage N.O.

these glitchs might be worth it if your using the inft. exp glitchs in the game, which is the un-modded version

  • I had the same problems on my GTX 260, enable software mirroring in the torment video options. Also I highly recomend Qwinn's & ghostdog's planescape mods they keep them constently updated and it makes the ageing game SO much better. Google planescape-torment-fully-modded

    Its the first result.
