Teaching my 5 month old puppy how to interact with new objects by clicker training! I've never tried clicker training before but Prime is taking to it quick!

  • That was aweful and in no way good clicker training.

On a good note: beautiful puppy and definitely ready for good training.

Too bad I saw this video 2 years late...

  • @layin22s The only thing I saw wrong was not clicking fast enough when he was offering the desired behavior with the egge. Otherwise, I did what the trainer showed me which was wait until the dog offers the desired behavior, mark it with the clicker, and praise. What did you see? That was my first time using a clicker and I have only used it to teach Tricks which Prime grasped very fast. Prime is obedience trained with marker words and treats.

Besides the delayed clicks the biggest problem was just not telling Prime what you wanted him to do. I didn't even watch the egg part. You can tell by his reactions he is just saying "tell me something" You were just short of a command word. He is way more interested in you then the button or egg. With that being said I felt you were skipping steps. It wasn't your firsttime with the button trick but putting it across the room was a bad start at that stage

  • @layin22s Exactly, I am making his brain work. He is a smart dog & can generally figure out what I want from him. I want him to learn the behavior before putting a command to it so he understands exactly what I am asking him to do when I do give him the command. He was offering me different behaviors and I only clicked/rewarded the one I wanted from him. Once he got the trick down pat I put the command "Make it easy" to it. Now I can say "Make it easy" and he knows to paw the button.

  • @teamgermanhusky (cont) I worked up to the command by having him offer me the desired behaviors. First I clicked and praised him showing the slightest interest in the button in the beginning, then I would not click/praise until he showed more interest, and finally once we upped the ante and he started pawing the button to make it talk, that is when I put the command to it and he knew exactly what I was asking him to do as you can see in the video I put together of him

  • Cool dog. Id rather have the girl though :)

Everyone has their own routine. That is a 2 day trick so a good start to learn your own ways. I do a lot of field work and also am in conjested areas so staying focused on me and what I do is a must to stay safe. A big reason why I use hand signals.

Like I said what you did 2 years ago is probably different from now. And giving your dog love and attention is 80% of the battle. And that's what I like to see...

  • @jaoadams85 what?

  • @unityspirit51 No prob :)
