Filmed by Voon. December 17, 2011. Aboard an authentic vintage subway car of NYC from 1931. Imagine riding on a train, complete with ceiling fans (no A/Cs back then and each of the vintage banner advertisement posters (some very witty and some quintessential of that period) and wicker chairs. Each car is unique in its own way, .
Now add to the equation an incredible hot jazz band called Sly Blue and it's pure heaven!!!

------------------------------
Excerpted from the event page: Dress up in any vintage duds to match the old subway cars the MTA is bringing out each Saturday in December, from Charleston and Django times to East Coast Swing and Doo Wop times (1930 to 1960 or thereabouts!)

The schedule for music, (if all goes as planned) is:

Queens Plaza Platform (M platform to Manhattan)
11:45 to ~12:10 CC Hot Club

Second Avenue Platform: (F platform uptown side)
Noon to ~12:55 Sly Blue AND Grand Street Stompers
12:55 to ~1:45 Lynn McCune AND CC Hot Club
1:45 to ~2:20 The Hot Sardines AND Drew Nugent and Midnight Society

Trains from Queens Plaza to Second Avenue
12:13 to ~12:45 CC Hot Club AND Drew Nugent and Midnight Society

Trains from Second Avenue to Queens Plaza and return to Second Avenue
12:57 to ~2:15 Grand Street Stompers AND Sly Blue AND Drew Nugent and Midnight Society
2:27 to ~3:45 Hot Sardines AND a Tea Party in the first car with Mickey Hart and the Lucky Dogs AND who knows who else???

If there is any interest by band members, there may be a final jam session at 3:45 at the Second Ave platform.

I just love the faces on people boarding what they think are "normal" subway cars, and see the trains with wicker seats, fans, old advertizements and a train full of people dressed in period dress and bands playing old tunes. (If you don't have anything vintage, be creative... a bow tie on a tee shirt will do it as well as a fedora looking hat for men, and for ladies, a flower in the hair or an old puffy dress will do and some bright red lipstick...ask your grandma to help here!!!)

See MTA website for more info: http://www.mta.info/metrocard/promos/Vintagetrain

This will coincide with the Tea Party put on by Matt Levy's Tour company: http://levysuniqueny.com/events/vintage-tea-and-vintage-swing-dancing-party-a...

To find photos of the event, photographers have been asked to post the photos they've taken on Flickr with the tag nycvintagetrain2011 (no spaces). Check out Eileen's Lindy Blog (http://thisweekinswingnyc.wordpress.com) which is the most accurate updated calendar of Swing dances going on in NYC is listed. MUCH THANKS to the fabulous Michael Ingbar for coordinating, to DANCE MANHATTAN and YOU SHOULD BE DANCING studios for graciously donated some cash to help support the bands. GREAT STUDIOS to learn how to dance and LINDY HOP/SWING DANCING are just of their specialties.
