December 28, 2008 - Over six hundred demonstrators gathered in Montreal this afternoon to protest against Israels aerial bombardment and draw attention to Israel's systematic starvation of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Despite the state of Israels refusal to allow delivery of aid and supplies that Palestinians living in Gaza require to live for the past two years, two days ago the Israeli air force began an aerial bombing campaign against all the people of Gaza, killing over two hundred and injuring over one thousand more. The F-16 fighter planes used by the Israeli air force in the attack were made in the United States with Canadian parts.

It is this latest round of Israeli aggression in Gaza that the demonstration in Montreal was aimed at protesting, in addition to the continued Israeli blockade of humanitarian aid and supplies. The protesters were comprised of members of both the Montreal Palestinian and Jewish communities, as well as concerned Montrealers of all backgrounds.

The protesters called for a stop to the fatal Israeli bombardment of civilians who are unable to defend themselves and an end to the blockade of all aid and support to the Gaza Strip. The movement took over Ste.Catherine Street from Guy to University, closing the street off to automobile traffic for three hours this afternoon.

The demonstration, which was organized by a coalition of Human Rights groups and supported by various Workers Unions, gathered strength in numbers as people along the route joined the march in progress.

Among the marchers were Quebec filmmaker Pierre Falardeau and recently elected MNA Dr.Amir Khadir from the Quebec Solidaire Party. There were also a large number of children and teenagers that participated, voicing their call for the respect of Human Rights to be enforced worldwide, starting in Gaza. Dr. Khadir addressed the crowd that had gathered and evoked messages of solidarity between the people of Quebec, the people of Palestine and oppressed people everywhere. He also promised that when Palestine would be free, all Canadians who refused to support the Palestinian people, ignored the abuse they are suffering or actively participated in their oppression, including prime minister Stephen Harper, would be shamed throughout the world.

Over 1.5 million people living in an area of 360 square kilometres have been cut off from the United Nations humanitarian supplies that they require to survive by the state of Israel. Israels actions have been supported by the United States and Canada despite being condemned as Human Rights violations by the United Nations.

  • Your muslim brothers and sisters so-called "Palestinians" (but they truly are not) send rockets into Israel. These "palestinians" should protest and drive Hamas out from "Palestine". By the way, Palestine was always part of Israel territory and Arafat self-proclaimed them Palestinians. They never were Palestinians, never will be. They are arab gypsies no other neighboring arab countries want. They should make a Gaza strip inside Iran or Syria and call it Gypsy strip, because that's what they are

  • Yeah, boycott Huggies! we'd rather let out children poop in our pants, but we'll stay tall and proud with their dirty butts.

  • Yeh yeh, do you Israeli Zionists go on a course of 'How to Pass As An Arab On Youtube'? Your hate channel are subtle but still all sound the same. Hateful!

Nobody believes your spiel, this is about the suffering of innocent ppl.

  • I'm not comparing. You said that Hamas came to power in democratic elections. That's true! But then it started shooting at their opponents. How democratic is that?
