@lupelupelupe sonny was the heart and soul of picture show. it was a mistake on McMurtry's part when he wrote texasville that he reduced sonny to supporting status; the mistake was repeated by bogdanovich when he made the film version. bottoms as sonny is my second favorite performance by an actor ever. it is more moving to me than even dean in east/eden or rebel!

i love sonny. I hated to see him in Texasville... and with little screen time.

there was that "silence" at :50, i wonder if sam was trying to say, "so long for good" ? maybe that's what the silence was.
