Russia to upgrade army in response to NATO expansion

President Medvedev has announced a programme of rearmament for Russia's military, starting in 2011. He says NATO expansion is one of the reasons which make the step necessary.

My idea:

Disband NATO, replace it with a European Union Military Force. The U.S. should keep it's nose out of European affairs (lol, this coming from the mouth of an American)

NATO never attacked Russia, that's true. still, the best mean to dissuade of doing so is a strong army. take events in Caucasus in the summer 2008 when US ally georgian army brutally attacked tiny republic S.Ossetia killing and expelling many people. hadn't Russia had strong enough army what would happen? genocide and exodus of ossets from their land. and NASTO would not even scratch about helping ossets. the opposite, bravo Georgia, take blank carte! so you see NATO is not so innocent.
