Sublime covered this song....

Check out the ultra fabulous trombone soloing in the background. It is still ska, but you can hear glimmerings of the root of rocksteady in the rythym.

this bob on lead vocal. this song was recorded in Dec 1965 BEFORE bob left for delaware.

ashman1960...your facts are almost correct....Rudie Rudie (Jailhouse) was recorded in December 1965, BEFORE bob left for Delaware. :-)

To clear it up, the lead vocal is NOT Bob Marley, it is Jah Bunny Livingston Wailer, the much under-valued and lesser known Wailer. Bob was in Delaware working in a factory at this time in 1966 while Peter Tosh, Bunny and Vision Walker kept the Wailers name alive in Jamaica. Big thanks for this dub version, I've never heard it!

The steady, forward-on, walking beat is fabulous. The vocal work is magic. B. Marley's lead is spooky; it is gripping. The energy is spiritual. The background vocal "fabric" is awesome. The horn in the background is totally fantastic. The riff the guitar and particularly the piano player make the thing pure magic. Notice this is an evolved ska (the original cut in it's original form). The remix is also very interesting; it enhances it rather than "messes" it up.

This is among the great music of all time, in the history of music. There is a ultra magical feel to this music. It is incredible.
