BRILLIANT! there are so many dumb ideas on you tube it made a refreshing change to come across something that is so simple and yet obviousy works .

@ I too would call it a maul, but to be fair, the same tool gets called by different names in different places , and i have also seen a hammer for knocking in fence posts called a maul , a beetle and a boitle. all in all pretty confusing I doubt also that tool whatever its called weighs 20lb , much nearer 10. lb

Good Job !

Most ideas are born out of lazyness.

-

@BuiltFarmStrong He misspoke in saying an "ax" or he doesn't know the difference. He is using a maul looks like a 20lb

This is a great idea Chuck.

I enjoy seeing new ideas for the outdoorsman, good job.

@cadets318 I suggested turning the tire inside out because it's impossable to do and I'm a sadist. See the you tube videos on this. However a wide tire such as a low profile model or spacing the tire rims appart with 2X4 spacers would allow splitting longer logs without having them topple out of the tire.

GOOD IDEA

Good Idea Tex!! Good video!

Nice - great minds think alike. Try putting the tire on a cable spool though. :) I use mine for kindling...

Hi there, thanks for sharing that, I guess probably almost 50% of the effort in wood chopping goes into chasing the bits around the yard and picking up the wood time and time again.
Well done!
Kind Regards ... Andy.

@Jex134 Ya, that reminds me of a saying. "If it wasn't for lazy people we'd still be doing things the hard way."
-
@bfenti Why would that matter? And have you ever tried to turn a tire inside out before?
-
I sure wouldn't stnd near that fella while he's swinging away. I wonder if he eve came close to chopping his leg.
Drill a few holes in the sidewalls and water will run out. No mosquitoes and don't need to cover it up.

Awesome trick. Thanks for the video. One other benefit I see is if your inexperienced at splitting wood, and you miss the piece of wood, the axe stays trapped inside the tire, not swinging down, and taking out your leg. LOVE IT...
