@filmprojectsonly R. Shankar and N.Banerjee both learned from Alaudin Khan,who was a member of U.Shankars dance troup and saw the talent of young Ravi and offered to teach him if he concentrated only on music.

The nonsense that "erider" is spewing is gossip from the 60's that even Annapurna has denied. There is a Reason for Ravi's fame, he is a brilliant master of Indian music and so Is Banerjee and to waste one's time in childish comparison between the two is ridiculous.

R, Shankar and N. Banerjee were taught by Baba Allaudin Khan (father of Ali Akbar Khan). I suspect that he was accepted by Baba as a favor to Uday Shankar (Ravi's brother) because RS was wasting his time as a terrible dancer. He married Baba's daughter Annapurna who was a fabulous sitar player. Later, the Shankar family citing that Shankar women did not perform "forced" her to stop performing Thus killing true talent. RS continued to sow his wild oats (Norah Jones). Note A. Shankar performs.

@erider1 With all due respect, I was under the impression that Banarjee taught Ravi Shankar. I don't think that makes Shankar a fraud. I believe that Ravi's talent is a testament to how amazing Nikhil Banerjee really is... I think they are complementary to eachother.
