Grammy Award winning Kathy Mattea's latest recording, COAL, is more than just mining songs. Mattea says she wanted to pay tribute to "my place and my people". Raised near Charleston, West Virginia, her mining heritage is thick: both her parents grew up in coal camps, both her grandfathers were miners, her mother worked for the local UMWA. "It's a coming together of a lot of different threads of her life. The album was just a sketch of an idea until the Sago Mine Disaster, which killed twelve West Virginia miners. 'Now is the time to do these songs' Mattea
says.

  • She's sexy as fuck

  • Just because we use coal, and (therefore) people must mine coal, does make it right or good. We need to recognize what needs improvement and improve it. Coal is the worst possible fuel, from a global standpoint. Don't be so parochial. People who mine coal could assemble solar panels, wind power generators, power transmission infrastructure... the list goes on.

  • how can she sing about coal miners when she is from a coal state, she has protest about the mountain top removal and the strip mines, most of our shopping centers are built on mountain top removel, walmart in paintsville ky,the airports, knott county ky sports complex for the kids ..her and ashley jugg is against it..this is the way of our lives, and obama is trying to get rid of the powerplants that run off coal, and then your electric bills will skyrocket, COAL KEEPS THE LIGHTS ON..and alot of jobs
